Returning at the LA Convention Center on 23rd and 24th February 2022, together with Luxe Pack Los Angeles, the trade show dedicated to the makeup industry has awarded the best innovations presented by the exhibitors in four categories: Formulation, Full service, Packaging and Accessory.
The winners of the 2022 edition of the MakeUp in LosAngeles IT Awards were revealed on the first day of the beauty trade show, during a ceremony hosted by Sandra Maguarian and Aurélie de Boisvilliers, the show organizers, and beauty expert and jury member Luisa Oliva.

The competition involves two steps. First, exhibitors submit the products with a video pitch and an in-depth description of their added value compared to similar existing products. In a second step, the short listed products are evaluated and tested by a jury of 12 international experts [1] who will reward the winners in four categories: Formulation, Full service, Packaging and Accessory.

22 skincare and make-up innovations were shortlisted this year, among 87 submissions across the four categories.

In the Accessory category, the paper handle applicators submitted by HNB Corporation were declared winners. The jury appreciated the “great leap forward” in sustainability allowed by these in-store product testing applicators featuring a handle made of recycled paper. According to HNB Corporation, 65% of the brush can be fully recycled and can be biodegrade in soil.

The other nominees in the Accessory category were ACT Beauty France’s Full PCR Makeup Brush Set (a makeup brush kit entirely made from recycled materials), and Cosmogen’s Paper Brush Set (a set of makeup brushes with customizable paper handles and vegan bristles).

In the Formulation category, the MakeUp in LosAngeles IT Award went to B.Kolormakeup & Skincare for their Lip Legend No-Transfer Liquid Lipstick, which offers a “soft as cashmere matte, moisturizing and long-lasting texture.” The formula is free from d4/d5/d6 BHT, phenoxyethanol, parabens, silicone and PEG.

Other nominees in the Formulation category included: DLab’s Soft Sculpt Skin Melding Waterless Whipped Foundation (an all-in-one foundation, concealer and powder with a surprising mousse texture and a waterless formula); Gotha Cosmetics’ Skin Perfector Foundcealer; Gotha Cosmetics’ Cotton Candy Lipstick; MPlus Cosmetics’ Perfector Foundation (an adaptable and perfecting foundation that goes on white and instantly self-adjusts to match the skin tone); and Necos Italy’s Le Baume (a hybrid lip product boasting a super comfort, non-sticky glossy formula with 92% naturally derived raw materials and some upcycled ingredients, inspired from the "probiotic technology” to help improve barrier function and defend the skin).

In the Full Service category, the IT Award was attributed to Chromavis Fareva’s Evoke, a playful lipstick with an amazing optical effect thanks to an innovative optical embossing designed to reflect light when the product is held at different angles.

Other nominees in the category included: Anjac Health & Beauty’s OK Compost Home Certifiable and Paper Sachet Sheet Mask (a 100% natural and biodegradable mask sheet packaged in an eco-friendly paper bag); Anjac Health & Beauty’s Dryly Impregnated Make Up Remover Pads (100% biodegradable cleaning pads designed to be rehydrated with water before use); Chromavis Fareva’s Materia (a new makeup concept where the product itself made with clay becomes its own cup and container thus reducing the industrial steps and materials used); Seacliff Beauty’s Soshe Beauty Refillable Clean Mascara (a refillable mascara, for the Soshe Refill Program that delivers refills to the customer’s door, all while cutting down on single-use plastic waste per refill).

In the Packaging category, the winner is APR Beauty Group Inc. for their mono-material airless powder pump allowing a precise and directional diffusion of the powder.

Other nominees in the packaging category were: Cosmei’s paper pencils (pencils with a customizable 100% paper barrel for long-lasting eye, eyebrow, and lip formulations); DTS Wista Packaging’s Aquamarine Mono- Material Airless System (a 100% recyclable mono material airless for micro-encapsulated formulas); the mono material pure drop stick packaging by J.Cop Korea (Jeong Hun), Somater’s CTA Eco Mascara, Somater’s Hybrid Container (a light container made with more than 52% bio-sourced cardboard and less than 48% plastic); Toly’s Powder Queen.

All the selected products were exhibited on the show floor and the winners were rewarded with a trophy during the award ceremony.
